About EnviroAutomate - Founders and Company
EnviroAutomate exists because the people who write contaminated land reports and the people who build software almost never sit in the same room. The result, across two decades and most of the industry's tooling attempts, is software that either understands the science but cannot be trusted in production, or runs reliably but does not understand a NEPM screening criterion from soil vapour guidelines.

David Pepplinkhouse - CEO and Co-Founder
David is a Senior Principal Environmental Scientist with more than 20 years in contaminated land assessment, remediation, and site investigation. Before co-founding EnviroAutomate, he spent 11 years client-side at BP, sitting on the buyer side of consultancy engagements, reviewing the reports rather than producing them. That decade is the reason EnviroAutomate's outputs are built to the standard a Tier-1 client actually expects, not the standard a software vendor assumes is good enough.
He has written, reviewed, and signed off thousands of reports. He knows which lines of an interpretive report a senior reviewer reads first, which tables get scrutinised, and which footnotes get ignored. He also knows which parts of the workflow burn senior hours for no scientific reason: the tables, the cross-references, the unit conversions, the formatting of an exceedance summary at 7pm on a Friday.
EnviroAutomate is his answer to that. The platform drafts, and qualified scientists review, edit, and approve. Every AI-drafted sentence in the Word document output carries a comment tag traceable back to its source, because in a regulated industry traceable beats clever every time.
David leads product direction, client conversations, and the public voice of the company. He is based in NSW.
James Pepplinkhouse - CTO and Co-Founder
James is a software architect and engineering leader with a background in building production systems for regulated industries. He leads EnviroAutomate's engineering, security, and AI architecture.
His position on AI in 2026 is load-bearing for everything EnviroAutomate ships: general-purpose chatbots are the wrong tool for environmental reporting. What works is structured, purpose-built tooling where the AI drafts inside guardrails, every action that touches client data passes through a human approval step, and every interaction is logged end to end. The AI Assistant inside EnviroAutomate is built on that principle.
The architecture reflects the same stance. EnviroAutomate runs on AWS in Sydney (ap-southeast-2). Client data is tenant-isolated and never used to train AI models. The platform is validated by a continuously growing automated test suite, currently over 9,000 tests, covering data integrity, tenant isolation, security, scientific calculations, and full report-generation approvals. Every deployment is blue-green with automated rollback. None of that is decorative; it is what lets a senior procurement reviewer say yes.
James is based in QLD.
The company
EnviroAutomate is an Australian based SaaS company for automated contaminated land assessment reporting. Our team is a small group of environmental scientists and technologists building deliberately, in tight feedback loops with the consultancies who use the platform every day.
We release new modules in beta to existing clients first, because the output has to meet the standard before it goes wider. We are focused on the work of making high quality solutions that the industry can trust, and accountable to the clients running production reports through the platform today.
